Mountain lions, also known as cougars or pumas, represent a variety of symbolic meanings and ecological roles. In Native American culture, they are often seen as protectors and guardians, embodying strength, stealth, and agility. They also serve as important keystone species, regulating populations of other animals and contributing to the overall health of their ecosystems. 

P-22, a mountain lion, gained fame in Los Angeles for residing in Griffith Park and its proximity to the Hollywood Sign, hence his nickname "Hollywood Cat". He was the 22nd mountain lion studied by the National Park Service in the Santa Monica Mountains, and became a symbol of urban wildlife resilience and the need for wildlife corridors.
